I was in Europe when my nana died. She would have
made it into her nineties. But a big car driven by a
young man, blinded by the sun

still came alone, along the street. Struck her. He
was sorry and my mum was hurt as well.

I was away. Nana was going to visit her dead
husband on the anniversary of his death.

I did not get to see her again. To tell her about
Scotland and Europe. Her relatives and mine.

She went to see her husband that day who had been in
the great war, and had been returned to her.

She is waiting for me with my brother when I
come down the road to meet them.
